Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS)

UPS Required

We sold custom computer software and hardware systems for a number of years. During that time, the owner of the business would never let a system go out the door without a UPS (uninterruptible power supply). She believed in them completely. If you are doing anything important on the computer – this is a necessary part of the system ...period! No computer system is secure from power problems without one.

Data Backup

The uninterruptible power supply can literally save the life of your computer. One thinks of the thunderstorms that cause black outs – even for just a minute – when the power goes out without warning. This can cause your desktop system to lose the work you have done for the last hour without saving it. But it is far more than that; the damage can be physical to the machine as well as emotional to you.

Equipment Damage

One of the most damaging aspects of the electricity running through your machines (computers, TV’s to name just two) is the small drop in power called "brown outs". You know, ...when things slow down. You could be using an electric razor or an electric mixer, and you hear the drop in the speed of the motor. Well, these brown outs cause major problems to hard drives in computers. As the power dips, the rate of turn on your hard drives or disks slows down as well which may result in a dead spot in data being written at that moment.

Surge Protectors

Surge protectors do a good job of protecting your equipment from spikes in the power but do nothing for the drop in the current or the complete outage of power. We once had a client who had walked out of our office with his system and a UPS just like the boss instructed. He called about two months later and was very upset. It seems there had been a lightening storm close to his office and sure enough, lightening struck his building. A power surge came through his wiring and blew up the UPS that he had purchased. The boss asked him if the computer had been damaged – “well, no”, he said. The boss then said, ‘then the UPS worked the way it was supposed to, didn’t it?” The man drove down and picked up two more uninterruptible power supplies – one for a spare, just in case.

Prolong Equipment Life

The UPS will provide extra power to protect your equipment and data when the grid is in overload . It will also give you enough time to properly shut down whatever it is that you are working on at the time of an unexpected loss of electricity. It's not a bad idea to protect your audio and video equipment (or any valuable electronics) in the same way. You will prolong the life of your equipment and enjoy a little peace of mind.
